If it were another company I would totally agree, but we're talking about Blizzard here. They are accustomed to MILLIONS of users hitting their servers with the "let me play now" demands. 12 million subs in WoW, you know? Just figured if anyone in the gaming industry would know how to prepare and handle demand like that it would be them. Guess I gave them far too much credit.

We bought it because hubby played the heck out of the first one and wanted to see how well they did with this one (he didn't rate D2 as high as D1). He also thought I might enjoy it. He was right. I loved it. It's mindless killing fun with lots of phat lewts. That's all it is. But it doesn't have to be any more. It's not something I'm going to play the same way as I'd play an MMO but the co-op feature means we can have hours of mindless killing fun together whenever we're in the mood for something that doesn't take too much thought.
We logged in after dinner eastern time and had no server problems whatsoever, so whatever their problem was, it had gone by then. But yeah, I'm in the 'you'd think they'd learn by now' camp. No excuse from a company with Blizz's experience. They should have remembered past launches and prepared for the swarm.

Well I broke down and bought it and even bought a copy for the wife. Have played them all for more hours than I care to admit and this one seems to be turning out the same.
I did have a big problem getting in. It would seem that my email address had been flagged by Blizzard as a spam account and the only way I could get it to create a battle.net account was to either make a new email just for that or call the tech support line. I was on hold for over an hour...just shy of an hour and a half. I have to admit that once I got someone it was cleared up in under 30 seconds but damn there must have been a lot of people having trouble. She told me that my situation was not unique and that they had been dealing with this sort of thing since the moment the game went live. Their stupid account management forms always want you to have info that you wouldn't have if you never had an account. In my case my name since my email is not my name.
One thing I found humerous though was that I had to call about 3 times. The IVR system gives you a couple of selections and the only ones that wouldn't just give you a message to go to the website and then hang up on your were the ones where you selected you had a problem with Diablo III.

I guess that is it then, mindless killing. It isn't for me, I live for the planning, calculating and understanding the system that I'm playing in. I've spent easily 10+ hours in STO reading how things work and coming up with my own variance which is lethal but my own. My mind just gets too bored with hacking games and mindless killing, I figure whats the point?
Hard to say why the server problems exist, there could be a bug only noticed on such large scale operations but plenty of hardware to handle the load if that bug existed. Any theories are just wild guesses.

Im having a blast with it. I can pick it up, burn down some baddies, and then put it down without getting too involved.
I do have to admit that I am not a big proponent of playing a single player game online. But I know its the way of the future.

Look into getting into the next SW Beta weekend - if you enjoy planning, calculating, and working on understanding systems and spending hours upon hours tweaking variances in your gameplay... As well as "good storied reasons to be killin" =D Course, its not f2p once it launches so..mayhap you don' twant to like it lol. I will say Cheryl that yoiu are right - it is a nice little game for co-op and friend play to just pull out and blast through for an hour or so. Me and the hubby have a copy as part of the Annual Pass. Neither of us care one whit about said copy as far as playing it on a regular basis, but the fact that we can co-op and fuck around is a fun alternative.

Don't get me wrong, I love games where I have to think, too. There's just something incredibly fun about burning down wave after wave of baddies, thinking your toon is going to die any time now, but scraping through. And then you stand amid a pile of loot and bodies and go 'Oh yeah baby!'. It puts a big fat grin on my face. It probably won't keep me occupied half as long as Skyrim, which I'm still playing, but while it does, it's a blast.

I played monk in beta and enjoyed that.
I tried witch hunter, but didn't like being so squishy...though the attacks were pretty cool. I also had tons of lag with the graphics of the spells. Now, not sure if that was a beta issue, or my system. I had to turn everything way down though to play as a witch hunter.
I got in a couple hours with Barbarian too. I think I liked the monk style of attack Better, but the barbarian was fun.
And the best thing - battle net connectivity between games. Poking people while im in wow and they are in diablo tickles me. And it helps with finding raid subs now rofl.

I went and played my wizard last night for a while and I really missed my witch doc. I think I might have found my calling. I think I like that it's not so much a direct damage class. I remember not caring much for the necro in D2.

I like the demon hunter. I don't really find it that squishy - they kill fast and with caltrops and a dodge they can stay out of the way of most things long enough to put them down. I like the witch doctor too, the whole idea of throwing jars of bugs at enemies is fun. In fact, there isn't a class I don't like, but the demon hunter comes out on top. Dual wielding mini crossbows and throwing out flaming rapid fire arrows FTW ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Im with you on this on Cheryl. Using caltrops and evasion techniques makes this class very tactical, and thats a really fun way to play for me. In SP, I use the Templar with him, beefed out in healing. And rapid fire with the ignite rune activated is the best way to clear some space, or burn down a unique, a pack of blues, or a boss in the least amount of time. Im also playing a WD and while I hated the class at first, once into the teens, they are a riot to play and can really jam up the mobs. Exploding Poison Pooches and Firebats galore! On a side note, my son has already beat the game and is in nightmare mode. He says its a BIG step up from the starting level of play. Hell, I havent even left Act I yet. Too much alt'itis going on. I managed to get a hardcore Barb up to level 15 before he met his demise in Leorics halls. Thats when I remembered how much I hate hardcore. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)

Hubby and I got our first completion and into nightmare mode last night, me on my DH and him on his monk. I promised myself I was going to treat the game like a regular 'play a bit at a time' thing, but was having way too much fun The DH just keeps on getting more and more fun, with lots more tactical things to choose from. I won't give you any spoilers but even on nightmare mode, if I see them coming, most things have trouble getting close before they die. Of course, if they get the jump on me and I'm totally swamped, I die a horrible death, but the caltrops and the roll have got me out of most bad situations. I've never played a game like it (having never played the earlier inceptions). The adrenaline of having wave after wave of seemingly impossible numbers coming at you, and then the relief when your toon is standing amid a pile of bodies (and lewts, don't forget the lewts), is more fun than you can shake a stick at. I'm also alting with a Wizard that I have in the teens. Have to be even more cautious with those but am learning how to kite with one of those as opposed to with my DH and that's a lot of fun. Wouldn't like to try that on hardcore mode. The idea of hardcore mode tugs at me though. The wondering of how high I would manage to get before I perma-deathed. It's a challenge I will probably try out when I'm done with the rest of the game, I think. By then I may just know the game and the playstyles well enough to attempt it lol. 15 is pretty good for a first go.
