Officially announced.
Is anyone excited about Diablo 3? Will the Blizzard team have another winner? PVP was scratched to get it to the street. Is Blizzard truly releasing games "when they are ready"? A lot of people are disenfranchised with the title/company/publisher and talking about how Torchlight 2 will own D3.
What are your thoughts?

PvP-PvSchmee.
I don't get why everyone is so enthralled by PvP that nobody seems like they can do co-op play anymore.
PvP was the bane of the first two Diablo games.
In Diablo 1, you had cheaters using all sorts of cheats to repeatedly one-hit kill players with "spells" that didn't actually exist in-game, and in Diablo 2, you still had cheating going on, you had all sorts of X vs Y whining. PvP i a large reason as to why one of the classes (Amazon) got nerfed into 100% complete uselessness in an offical patch (what was that, 1.10+?) to the point that it is pretty unplayable past Nightmare.
PvP causes way too many problems in these kinds of games and IMO doesn't even belong in it.
Diablo is not World of Warcraft; nothing in Diablo's lore suggests that humans ought to be fighting each other when there's a huge army of demons threatening to destroy the world, except those humans who are being controlled by the demons, or those who are worshipping the demons.

I tend to agree with you Xaeris. I remember the early days of Battlenet and Diablo I with PK's (Player Killers) and then PKK's (Player Killer Killers) and how people could cast spells in town, one shot you, etc...
Ive never enjoyed PvP much (other than Scott Kurtz's great comic strip). Too much chest beating, posturing and peen comparison for my likes. To me, a well run coop, raid, Op, whatever is much more rewarding than holding the flag while some ass finds a geometry exploit to win a game. And dont even get me going on AFK'ers.
I hope they charge for the PVP piece. That would be priceless.

Diablo2 was a loot and grind -fest but it was ahead of its time. You don't need a single player game to go have a loot or a grind -fest any longer so it will be interesting to see what changes they've made to it.
As far as PvP, the issue in my mind if they do add it is that they continue to try to "balance" it against each other for years and years. When the game is designed for PvE so they should be balancing it for that.

Though, if you ask me, WoW is a game that was designed with PvE in mind with some PvP thrown ontop of it. WoW's engine doesn't even work too kindly with PvP (the whole 'your target must be in front of you!' while everyone runs circles around you trying to give you as many LoS errors as they can), etc etc etc. As for Diablo, yeah, I remember those early BNET days too. It is why I haven't touched Diablo1 BNET since. Never even bothered for Diablo2; Patch 1.09d was the last official patch I played, I heard things went pretty downhill from there, esp with them nerfing my favorite class into uselessness and putting absolutely overpowered stuff in the game, AND breaking the /players command that allowed you to gain actual XP in low-man or single-player games.

I was an active modder for D2 (Darkness Weave and Dark Crusade the most notable). I quit modding right after 1.09d came out. My focus was strictly on single/coop play. Since mods couldnt be played over battlenet (open battlenet, but thats another issue), it was easy to keep the focus on PVE balance.
I havent had the courage to try PvP in SWTOR yet. I think the eyes of the world/industry/community/IRS are on the Live auction house and what kind of madness it will generate.

I am in the beta and have not tried any co-op yet but after the latest build I have gotten all but the Mage up to level 10. Each class feels very diffrent and I have enjoyed them quite a bit. I like the range/mage classes better, but then I have been that way in all my games, but the Barbarian and Monk was still not bad once I got some skills powered up and unlocked.
The Witch Doctor really creeped me out at first with it's summons and surprised me how much I liked it. The Demon hunter had some really cool skills once you start unlocking the runes. Speaking of which I think I personally like the way the changed the runes, but do see a lot of "backtracking" to older skill when you unlock a rune. I found I did not completely like the first kill I learned so moved on to the next that unlocked but once the first rune unlocked I was back to it with the rune. I wonder how that will go thought out the game.
As I said I have not tried a co-op game yet but really need to try that as I can see it be very fun and some tactics being needed or being worked out based on class combinations as there are plenty of push-backs and slows and such. I have also noticed my mage being more squishy in the latest build and I even dies for the first time in about 10+ play thoughts.
So anyone else in beta? or on battlenet that want to share there IDs so I can add some friends. /9-> If anyone else in beta it might be fun to get togather and play some to see how that works.

I was a bit disappointed I didnt get invited to the beta. I have been in every blizzard beta so it was kind of a let down.
I still have my Diablo II and D2 LOD Beta CD's tucked safely away. Somewhere... I hope.
Quick question because I am too lazy to go look. Can you play Male/Female genders for each class, or is the class specific to gender (ie Sorceress, Amazon, Assassin, etc...)

And then there are players like me who opt-in for betas as early as possible and have never seen a single beta key. That will (supposedly!) change with the Annual Pass and the supposed promised MoP beta key... but I bet there'll be some stupid limitation on it like "you can play... for two days then that's it" or some-shit.

I am pretty sure you can play either sex. Before the last big update I did not pay attention and really did not pay attention for the Barbarian and Monk, But I know there is a Male and Female Witch Doctor, Demon Hunter and Mage. I will double check that tonight. I played a Mage and a Witch Doctor before the last player wipe and I want to say it defaulted to Female Witch Doctor and Male Mage, but not sure if was just in such a hurry to play. I was really surprised I got the invite. So much so I deleted it think it was a Phishing attempt. LOL. I was like, "Let me go to Battlenet and just check." and it was real i was floored. LOL

Yeah, I get a bunch of emails saying I have been chosen. When I got one from myself, I knew it was all scam.

Completely and totally disinterested.
I loved D1 and D2. Then Blizzard went to MoronTown attacking bnetd, and I threw them in the trash. I haven't bought a Blizzard game since. Never will, and that makes me happy.

I have no doubt d3 will sweep the competition, for those people who love that type of game style.
I got bored with D1 so (shrugs) I get a free copy since I signed for the annual pass; otherwise no I wouldn't have even pirated it I'm sure. So since I have it I"ll login, character create for a bit, and play until I get tired of it LOL. No money loss so hey...
But I"m sure it will do well.
Actually, even Blizz says that WoW is a PVE Game with PVP beign the 2nd prioirty. And that's not the engine that's how PVP works in all games; line of sight is always important adn constant movement is also always important.
Its SW:TOR engine that isn't built for PVP when you can't even tab-target correctly and you can't click on people's nametags to target them. Its a real mess sometimes.

Well Looks like the Beta is down right now. I had to rebuild my PC last night so once it is up I will double check the male female issue.

I liked the first two when they came out, alot. However that was a long time ago, and in the meantime my tastes have changed quite a bit. So I can't say that I have any interest in playing D3.
