Here I propose that we give a little background to our shattered psyches, so shedding light on why we are such insufferable moaning MMPORPG bastards. Wear your history with pride! Name Normally Algenon, but also commonly Budvar, Cheese, Mu and Ciccone (when I wanna explore my feline side, hehe). I was also a mage called Boo in a couple of games, but don't tell Paladin. OccupationNormally a solo jack-of-all-trades type who likes guild chat and message boards almost as much as the games. Explorer. HistoryStarted in The Realm before taking a huge leap to AO. Short stays at AC2 and SWG followed before my Hz stint. I did a month free trial of EQ (ass hat of a game) and have been involved in the beta tests of AO, DaoC, Eve, CoH, SoR and now EQ2. Much browser fun was had with Lunatix Online and Kingdom of Loathing. Current/Future FormPayed non-player of Hz until mid-October. On the brink of buying Ryzom but waiting to see if EQ2 inspires me. Will probably buy all the feckers and can't honestly say where my cash will end up.

Name Strangely, I've only been Sheral in Horizons. I started out as Aurora (when I could actually get the name, otherwise it was Aurorah). I'm now favouring Dee Mentia (In CoH I had a magic mind controller with that name, and my enchanter in AC2 was Dee Mentia, as was my night elf druid in WoW if only for just over a week). I was Ch'ryl in Eve-online.
Occupation Hmm, well I've been a researcher/fighter pilot (Eve), A ranger (Horizons and AC2) An Enchanter (AC2), A druid (DAoC and briefly in WoW). Nearly always choose a class that can heal as well as fight, although never gone for an all out healer. More of an all-rounder than a master of one thing, so a bit of a Jill of all trades here too.
History Started in Eve. Then Horizons, then briefly DAoC, then extremely briefly AO (about 3 hours). Then CoH for a couple of months, then AC2, again for a couple of months and still there for now. Was in the Beta of Lineage II and Risk Your Life. I started playing Eve because I was sick of being an MMORPG widow to be honest. I've always played computer and console games (since pong), and when hubby bought Eve I figured it was just another game. How wrong I was! After several conversations with myself (you know, like where I talk to him and he says that's nice hon' and I say 'By the way dear, I invited my mum to stay for a month, she's coming tomorrow' and he says 'that's nice, hon') I tried the game out when he was on night shift and then I understood...hehe. I bought myself a copy and that was that. Now we fight together, explore together and have a blast and he doesn't feel guilty for playing anymore hehe.
Current and Future Well I tried out AC2 after getting bored with CoH and it's currently not boring me to tears. It will though, and in the not too distant future I'm sure. Future, well unless EQ2 turns out to be fantastic I will probably go for WoW. We do have our eye on mourning though - looks very promising but we all know how that can be.

Name
Gigglet, but have also had the names Catti Kitti and Miaka.
Occupation
I love people and chat alot some days. Some even say to much but ah well. I am also a message board addict. I frequent many and run a few as well. I love to craft and hate to solo. I also like exploring as well!
History
Well I to started out in ac1 and I played on the Harvestgain server for about 2 and a half years. My main was an Unarmed Combat with Crossbow who loved to make pizzas, lol. As time went on there were more 3rd party apps and everyone had a bot. We really dislike bots so my hubbie and I decided it was time to go. We moved onto DAoC from there and played on Galahad as the Hibernian race. I had many toons there but my favorites were my druid and my champion. As time went on it was harder and hard to find groups and I was not really into the PvP aspect of the game. So we went to gen con and got a beta disk for ac2. The beta was fun and we met lots of friends. We then moved onto retail but could not find the same feel ac1 had. There were many bugs including no chat for weeks and the complete reworking of the crafting system more than once. So we bid farwell to ac2 and tried out the Horizons beta. I moved onto retail where my main's name was Catti Kitti.
Current and Future
As for games, I am setting my sites on EQ2 with my name and job to be decided! Seeing as it's not out yet I keep busy by spending time with my kids, reading, and sewing!
*hugs*

NameThe full name, Rad Soneldar Blackrose, was created by me for a series of stories I wrote a long, long time ago. I have used some variation of the name in amy MMO. I first started gaming on Avatar MUD way back in the day, and used the names Ramza and Ascendant. In the first person shooter scene, I was originally Rad (Quake CTF, Quake Team Fortress, Counter-Strike), but eventually switched to Godfather (Quake Team Fortress, Unreal Tournament, Counter-Strike). The only time I have used Rad Blackrose was in Jedi Knight II. And that name is feared. Occupation: I prefer a family guild over a raid guild, and feel more suited for leadership than standard membership. I love talking about game mechanics, what makes the world tick, whatever. My gameplay style falls into the jack-of-all-trades. History: Like I said, I originally started in Avatar MUD back in the 56k heyday. I moved on to beta test EverQuest, played there for a few years, then hopped to DAoC. After that I went to the Earth and Beyond beta, then to Neverwinter Nights. After Neverwinter Nights I went back to EQ, then applied to beta test Horizons. I had not played EQ for months when I got picked up for Horizons beta testing. I forgot to mention, I tried AC2, uninstalled it in two days. Since then I have beta tested World of Warcraft, but MMOs have begun to take a backseat due to the current state of the industry. Current and Future: Currently I'm back in EverQuest spending time with friends before I depart for World of Warcraft. EQ2 is a strict hell no for me.

NAME: Heartsick..first time board name, no further history. AKA THE CAps broken guy. OCCUPATION: Explorer in worlds that dont smash you to smithereens, almost always alone. Not much of a healer type persay, but as a backup man one of the best(Loyal to a fault until pissed on or off) Not very good at coming across well all the time to everyone. Not a group oriented person. HISTORY: Can you really call Diablo a game...hmm, ok that was first for me. Then it was UO from shelf...til the latest expansion. AC1 two years, loved smashing bugs to bits. Eq, one month. AO three months...enjoyed it..just...got bored with it. Endless Ages three months...bored. HZ a month a half..still going. Other mentionables, I could have been a ranter on Atriarch boards....but I got tired of arguing with them(you never have your character leave the world...and theres permadeath...and pking. Last I knew of.) Oh...I also see plots within plots and spend most of my time trying to figure things out(paranoic?) CURRENT/FUTURE: HZ at the moment, who the hell knows for the future. I absolutely hated EQ...but the second one sounds inviting...like a spider. All I can see is 18 upgrades and pain and anguish when I try to think of that games future and dealing with no voice within the system. Not that having people listen to some people is necessarily good.

Post by theurgist on Sept 17, 2004 9:57:20 GMT
Name Normally Theurgist, but since DaoC came out other bleeper players keep choosing it. Was using it as my nick years before daoc. Also known by many variations of that; Urgist, Urgy, The Urgist, and in CoH running as the Chi series (Chibot, Chiborg, Chiradon etc). Tend to go by Theurgist in most FPS shooters and the strategy games. The only notable exception to this is Medal of Honor where I run around as a german called Von Killerhausen.
Occupation I like playing as jack-of-all-trades, but I pretty much inevitable drift towards the more combat oriented classes. I enjoy guild chat and tend to end up in leadership roles for some reason.
History Was in the beta of Earth and Beyond (2nd pass), but had my i-net connection go out for a few months and missed most of that. Went retail & played a year EnB as one of the guild officers, and later as a member of the council too. Good times.. from there I picked up Horizons & have been playing since (Ended up a guild leader for a bit, though have passed the mantle on). About two months or so ago I picked up a copy of CoH and have been splitting my time between Hz n Coh, with Coh getting the lions share.
Current/Furure Form Unless Hz pulls off a miracle I can't see me sticking it out there for too long. Quite happy to play CoH as is, and when WoW comes out will very likely head on over as lots of guildies will be heading over as well. I suspect I'll keep CoH going then as well as I'm quite looking forward to Superbases, vehicles and... villans!

Name Slaihne, Adagio, Forzando, or Turnip. Normally the first but if that’s not available then I use one of the others. Occupation I was going to call myself an explorer but on thinking about it I would probably be better classed as a student. I love learning all there is to know about virtual worlds, so you will find me honing various skills until I can kill that 5th womble in a row without resting, or trying to make a certain high number of foozles in a set time using different resource fields / portals etc. just to see if it can be done. Normally solo but a lot of time you can find me in the company of my Fiancee Niali (or some version of that name). I enjoy a bit of craic on chat but normally am most outspoken on Friday evenings courtesy of Al & co & all. Normally a lurker on boards but will post from time to time. History Gemstone III and Dragonrealms, both text based games (still going too). These two literally cost me thousands of pounds to play. They were on Aol and at that stage you had to pay for the game per hour and Aol per hour and the modem call per minute (at national rates). Loved both games, only changed to Dragonrealms because it had a more complex and interesting skill system. Had to leave that due to lack of money. EQ came later. It sounded great, especially the flat rate per month and at that stage call charges were down to local rates for an internet connection so not quite as expensive. Levelled a Shaman to 26 and met a few friends along the way. By then I was having a battle with a Gnoll, killing it in about 2 minutes and then sitting down to recover mana for the next 10 to 15 minutes. During one of these rest breaks I realised I could have more fun working as a checkout operator, and get paid for it. So I quit. AC was the game I immediately moved to. I still have a soft spot for that game. Levelled a lifemage and loved the drain spells. Then I set out on the path of battlemage after some research and hit 60 with him. Used to love battling 10+ tuskers at a time and using the drain mechanics to keep alive and my mana topped up. It required reasonable reactions and the ability to keep up with what was happening as well as being able to adjust your style and think on your feet. Those combats were just so fluid you could almost imagine you were really there, rather than use hotkeys 1 through 6 as soon as they become available. As I said, still got a soft spot for that game but I hear that the drain mechanic is a lot different now so I’ll probably not be going back. Oh, I almost forgot, I met my fiancée while playing this. I then moved to DAOC, my first beta. The graphics seemed wonderful. Combat, while not as fluid as AC, seemed the most solid of any game I knew off. There’s something to be said for the evil zombie being in a position where is actually looks like you are clouting him with your uber stick of foozle. I played a Warden, levelled to 43 and on Friday evenings could be found babysitting the younguns in a level 10-20 dungeon with Niali by my side. In the end the whole buffbot thing soured me with the game. I hate greed and Mythic seemed to be a company that was going out of their way to encourage players to open a second account. In fact it had gotten to the stage that the perception was you needed a buffbot to compete in RvR. One Friday, we checked out a high level dungeon where we usually took a low level pick up group to get them a few levels. Every available spot was camped with a level 50 warrior / wizard or other fighting class paired with a low level buffing class. These were blatantly folks levelling up buffbots on second accounts. We were a tad annoyed to see the buffbot thing so in our faces but we hung around to see if anyone would leave. Eventually one pair seemed to log so we took their spot, only to discover that they were having problems keeping both the buffbot and themselves logged in. We got a few nasty words telling us that this was his camp , even though we pointed out that there was no one there when we started fighting at that spot. In the end, I said let him have it. We ran out, I gave my stuff away and quit. Liked the game still, but hated the overt “give me your money” attitude by the company that was running it. I played some AC again at this stage, it was just after the expansion came out. They had begun to change the magic system by now and I disliked the changes so didn’t stay too long. And so I moved onto AC2. There we met Algenon who was known as Mu at the time. There was a running joke about his mudballs (ask him sometime ). The game seemed good, not great, but good. There seemed to be possibilities. Then we hit the third and final island and discovered a lack of content. That in itself was fine and wouldn’t have led to us leaving but then they decided to reduce player abilities, practically across the board. I played one of the most powerful classes and knew we needed nerfed. So that was okay. What I found bad was the fact that it took months originally to get to our level and decide where you were going to put skillpoints, then the devs totally changed the rules (made critters tougher) and gave you all your skillpoints back to spend again. The only problem was, that after respending all those points you only had an hour to see if you were still viable and reset the points to spend them again. Basically, what had taken us months to do with research we now had to do in an hour with no research, since no-one else knew what worked and what didn’t. Again, we quit in disgust. We then went to AO. Game itself wasn’t that bad. It got a bit samey with the whole mission aspect and randomly generated dungeons / buildings but we stuck it out and had a fair bit of craic. Then the shadowlands expansion came out and we liked some of the new classes available to play. The thing we hated was the downtimes which always seemed to coincide with european primetime. In the end, we didn’t like being treated like second class citizens and so we left. I fiddled with EQ again, couldn’t get back into it. Played Eve, liked it initially but was disappointed it wasn’t going to be a MMOPRG version of Elite. Then I got onto the HZ beta. HZ was the first game where I played a crafter pretty much exclusively. In DAOC I crafted to make weapons for myself and others but stopped at the point where it was becoming too time consuming to progress. I fiddled with crafting in AC but that was just a sideline. HZ was a game were there was a fair degree of complexity, in fact crafting seemed to be very original to me, in that it was a direct analogy of combat. The resources took the place of the mobs (only the ore piles don’t move). I liked the idea of crafting, not as a money sink, but as a way of making money. The combat side seemed a direct blag of the average combat system; whack the monster and hit hotkeyed special attacks when they become available. I basically loved the game for it’s crafting system. Then the trouble started. I discovered that the system that I loved so much could be a harsher mistress than any combat system. Our guild rebuilt the stoneworks outside Parsinia after doing some building work on a plot and helping with some community structures, and afterwards I did a small amount of work on Algy’s house. The stoneworks basically consisted of four of us making endless runs for resources. After about a week or two of these resource runs I was completely sick of them. To the point I dreaded logging in, in case someone wanted help with building this that or the other. It was the first game I played that actually made me physically ill at the thought of playing. So I stopped. Niali played on for a while but she got fed up too. Present Now, we are both playing DAOC and enjoying it. We’re playing on the UK server’s so I can mitigate my disgust at giving a money grabbing company my money by considering that a European company gets it first and only passes on a percentage (cop out I know). Also, Niali and I have a buffbot of our own. The mentality there is that we’re going to join them since we know we can’t beat them. And btw, it turns out that the buffbot situation there is worse than you read about on the boards. As it actually turns out, our daughter is using the buffbot account (when she’s not grounded) since she seems to like DAOC so we’re not 100% the l33t uberd00ds Future WOW is on the cards. We both played a lot or Warcraft III between HZ and rejoining DAOC. Not the proper WC III but the custom tower defence type games (I’ve never actually played the proper game online, and have only played a couple of the single player scenarios). We like Blizzard stuff, the attention to detail etc. I’m interested to see if they can pull it off in the MMORPG market. Plus I like the the Blizzard universe and the graphical style. Well, if you got this far – get back to work I’m sure your lunch hour is over. rgds Slaihne PS. Can we get stars for word count? o.O

NameCatharsis, Catharsis Noir, Servan, Special(le) Mayer, Solicity Kroell, Rental Donard, Catherine (Kate) Noir, Prunella LaRude, Darla Dragass..in descending order. Occupation I assume this means ingame. While, beleive it or not, I might actually be thought of a rather demure and almost retiring in RL, ingame experiences have shown that I have a leaning towards being either a solo melee fighter - currently a berserker, btw - or a prostitute. Go figure! HistoryStarted off in Sociolotron Beta..which is still in Beta as I write this, so there's still the NDA..The one game that really has it all - sex, violence...AND crafting! Catherine "Kate" Noir was just a little incidental Goth girl I created on the fly to address that partof my warped little psyche. Instead, she seemed to take me over...she might be a dryad now in Hz, but she's still with us, and probably will be for a long time Moved to Hz on the recommedation of some UK players...but got bored after a few months, and started playing L2 - first in the l33t open Beta, then on release. Meanwhile, when dryads were introduced in Hz, Catharsis reincarnated as a tiny wood spirit with a SEVERLY constrasting view of life in Istaria. Hint - she usually won't group with you (because of RL interupptions, btw), but if she does, she's not possessed of much common sense. She's been known to say "Hi!" to the Avatar of Pain, with predictable results. It doesn't matter to her, because she gets to ride the recall - 'cuz it's FUN! Anyway, gave up L2 for the grind that it was, though Iliked the self-policing aspect of the PvP - it was actually rather quiet in there, and people were polite, especailly when they thought you might be able to kill them. Tried RYL - found it to be a weak L2. Tried CoH Beta - cute and funny, but nothing to hold me. Current and Future EQ2 looks enticing...that's about it. When it's released, I'll get a copy and try it out..and if it's my logical successor to Hz, that's where I'll be.

NameSince online monikers were created Ive been known as RexxLaww. Its a pen name of sorts, going back to the days of when I was a writer and game reviewer for several websites. In game I use RexxLaww, Rexx Laww, and Shaltizar deh Titan. These are my most prominent online presences (the third being from Horizons). In CoH, its Rexx Laww, but you might see Checker Cabbie, Scratch Six, Can Tankerous, and Red Barchetta. Occupation Currenly a Katana/Regeneration Scrapper in City of Heroes. I am a SuperGroup (ie. Guild) Leader for a medium sized SG (15 Mains total). I ran a guild in Horizons that topped out at 100 active players at one point. I generally lean towards archers and mages so playing a pure melee guy was quite a departure for me. Im lurvin' it. HistoryWow. Lets see. PnP roleplayer from the very late '70s. Even did some game design for a company called Metagaming (Yeah, im OLD. So fawking what?). Did a mod project for Unreal Tournament called UTC. Did an Ironman Mod for Diablo II which was very successful and taught me a LOT about being a project manager, designer, and artist. Not to mention how to set up, run, maintain and manage beta teams. Believe it or not Horizons was my first MMO. I got into the beta in April of 2003 (It might have been late alpha at that point). I had always been against the idea of 'paying to play', but as you can see, moved from that talking point quickly. Monika at AE invited me to join early because of my work with the D2 project and my l337 sk111z as a writer. (Yeah write!). When Hz closed their beta, I moved to DAoC. It was fun, but not a lot of fun. I stuck it out for two months and hung it up. I tried several other betas at that point including AC2, WWII Online, Planetside (drek), and some others. Horizons was released and I bought it in Jan of 2004. I was bitterly disappointed, but played through, taking my Shaman (as well as 7 other classes) up to Level 60 before shutting it down. Leaving Hz was hard, not because of the intriguing game play, but because disbanding a guild of 40+ people was hard to do. If MMO's have done anything for me, its showed me what having a group of regular friends, if even virtual, can mean. Ask anyone on who played on Energy about the construction projects and WM Eridani what I did. SWG beta followed with less than stellar impressions. Ditto on Ryzom. Then I came across CoH. At first I scoffed. Then I gave it a whirl. Which leads us to the next part... Current and Future City of Heroes. I dont see myself moving from this for a long time. I tried the WoW beta, and wasnt 'wowed'. I have no desire in EQ2. Too many uber guilds out there already setting up shop. And frankly SOE has done NOTHING to impress me. Pirates of the Burning Seas has my interest, simply because like CoH, its a genre that hasnt been touched yet (Puzzle Pirates notwithstanding). Long post, but thats it in a nutshell.

Name Mer Barwis (HZ, Chaos); Winkle Stonemaiden, Mooia Damagnifeecent, Mooku Beautyfull and Cereus Moongarden (EQ, Firiona Vie); BUZZZZ (CoH, Virtue)
Occupation Teacher of college chemistry.
History I started with FPS single player games like Alice and Undying, about a year and a half ago. Undying introduced me to player-made maps (meaning you can use the game software to create your own zones to play in) and I justified my interest in this by thinking it would be a great science teaching tool.
From there I graduated to UT2003 which is an MMO that shipped (and still ships, as UT 2004) with the map-creation software. That introduced me to PvP (though I did not know what that meant at the time) in a big way and scared me too much to try other MMORPGs. So I did Sims Online for awhile. Talk about cyber. A friend in Sims Online brought me over to HZ soon after it was released. I remember (after PvP in UT2003) being terrified of the dragons when I first logged on HZ because I thought they were going to try to kill me.
Emboldened by my experiences in HZ I have tried most other MMORPGs -- DAoC, AC1, L2, NWN, CoH, AO, Eve, etc. etc. etc.
Current/Future Form Payed non-player of Hz until November. Lately I have been playing EQ but am getting a bit bored with the grind in the MMORPGs I've played. I am feeling the pull of UT2004 and designing maps (not to mention no monthly subscription fee).[/quote]

Name - Nali Grudgebringer Horizons is the first game in which I've used Nali. None of my other names seemed very dwarfish. The other names I most commonly use are Crysandra (since my days of UO) and Melcene (since my days of AO since the other wasn't very sci-fi-ish).
Occupation - Cleric I've played clerics or primary healers since my days of MUDing. In whatever guild I'm in, I usually take on some sort of authority as an officer or whatnot. I also mod and admin for a couple other message boards. I would also say Explorer. I often wonder if I have a bit of kender in me, because I sometimes get a bit of wanderlust.
History I started MUDing back in '96. Graphics games started with UO in '98 for a while, then on to EQ which I played on and off up until the beginning of this year. Throw in about 6 months of DAoC, a year of AO, beta testing here and there, and HZ since February.
Current/Future Form Still paying for and occasionally playing Horizons. Was expecting to be playing EQ2 when it starts, but after beta testing and pressure from the hubby, seems like I'll be heading over to WoW.TEXTTEXTTEXT

Name: El Cocinero on my tradeskill characters, Fergus (MacNamera) is first choice for adventurer types, Juan Ernesto, simplybob, and Entil'zah (archer/ranger only) show up too.
Occupation: I prefer to solo, but will group up if I know a person or two that is there. I'll nearly always investigate tradeskilling in a game, but for adventure tend to gravitate towards melee types (nothing better than being face to face with the bad guys), although acting as healer can be a good change of pace.
History: I've gamed since I was 10, although there were only board-style wargames. Panzer leader was my first wargame followed by many more. Then D+D came out and filled up my high school years with Gamma World, Top Secret, and Paranoia Just a few of the more interesting other ones we played. Once Texas Instruments came out with thier first generation home computer with the TI99-4a 16k monster, I played roling and fantasy/SciFi games when I could afford it. My first online game was AC1 at retail, which I played for a couple of years then began searching. I've played EQ, AC2 AO, Hz, DAoC, UO, E+B, EvE, and now beta for SoR. Several I've returned to a couple of time (AC, AO, and EQ) and keep searching for 'THE GAME'
Current/Future Form: I'll most likely buy SoR next week when it goes retail in the US despite swearing not to jump into another game at retail after the bitter disappointment that was Horizons. I've also got my eyes on MEO, if Turbine can get it together.
