To our British friends--on behalf of my family, and I believe all Americans, please let me say that our prayers and thoughts are with you today in your hour of fire and trial. And our heart-felt condolences to the families and friends who lost loved ones in the murderous attacks today.

I echo that sentiment. Just was reading down Slashdot, scanned across the story headline, and went to read another one first, as it didn't register with me at all, thinking that it was just another news story about another suicide bomber attack in Iraq. Then it hit me, the headline said LONDON. It was too surreal for me to grasp. When I read over it again, it hit he full force that something serious had happened.
Global terrorism had come home to roost on British soil.
My deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims of this atrocity.

Wouldn't it suck if some asshat came along right about now and said something like,
" You had it coming "

I hope our British members and their families are all ok. While people are saying "we were expecting it" it's still something different to experience it. I can't help but wonder if they had people on standby for whichever country won the Olympic bid.

I dont think it had anything to do with the Olympics only because the time it takes to plan out an attack.
Just shows us its not a USA thing when we discuss terrorist acts. Its effecting all of humanity. IMO they have lost credibility by random acts meant to kill innocent people. Any message they were trying to make is lost to me. It might also sway a few wavering supporters of the war back over.

Hmmm, wonders how long it will take for them to ask the good ole US of A to help em out.
I bet it's already been done.
*disclaimer*
I am truely sorry for the attack, but maybe, just maybe its time for the rest of the world to wake up and join the fight against these evil fucktards.

Thank you from over here I presume this was becuase G8 is here, not the Olympics - I expect that was an added bonus for them. And Paladin, yes, we did have it coming - we have been expecting an attack like this for a long time, so say what you like - I doubt you'll find people on this side of the pond taking offense. Our history books remind us of the atrocities we subjected other countries and peoples too in the past, and its nothing to be proud of. This is perhaps a timely reminder not to go down that same path again.

I too have to express my condolances to all who have lost someone in this terrible tragedy. My thoughts are with your families as well as mine, many of which are in the UK.
@pal Most of the rest of the world is helping in the fight against terrorism, through intelligence gathering, sharing information, assisting security services in other countries and military commitments in Afganistan. Iraq on the other hand, had nothing to do with terrorism except to stir it up, if that's what you mean.

I hope our British members and their families are all ok. While people are saying "we were expecting it" it's still something different to experience it. I can't help but wonder if they had people on standby for whichever country won the Olympic bid. You know I wondered the same thing - yes these things take months to put together. But at the same time you could have had two teams ready to go yesterday when the annoucement was made - and this morning could have been Paris instead. If it were not for the G8 Summit of course, that's another factor that probably does have more to do with it. THAT and England has ALWAYS been our strongest war supporter, of course. When I saw it this morning I immediatley thought of the RR's from across the pond and hoped they and their famlies and everyone they ever knew were ok. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all - nothing like this should ever need to happen, anywhere, for any reason. Frith

Thanks for your thoughts folks. Thankfully no one I know was in London today, but I feel for those who were.
It's a long time since I have felt nervous about taking the train (I was a teenager when the IRA were actively bombing on a regular basis in England), but tonight as I walked through the very busy station I was nervous.
And Pal, I see what you're getting at, but I don't think we did deserve it just as I don't think innocent Americans in New York deserved what happened on 9/11. Nor do I think terrorism is the solution to anything. But I do think the actions of my government have created a situation where innocent people in my country were attacked.
And why the hell shouldn't we ask for help from the good ol' US of A? It was helping the good ol' US of A invade Iraq that got us the attention in the first place. The only people claiming responsibility are saying it was in retaliation for all the innocent people killed during our invasion of Iraq. I'm not advocating that we should walk away now, that would be giving in to terrorism and I'm totally against that. But yeah, we earned the right to ask for help if we need it.
And no, I don't think it was anything to do with the Olympics. I think it was the fact that the G8 summit started this morning, and since all the focus was on keeping Tony Blair and George Bush and co. safe, they obviously decided that London would be an easier target. And it was.

See here we are going back to blaming America for these terrorist acts.
Here's a little wake up call, with or without America in the picture those fucktards over there would be killing innocent people, with or without America in the picture countries that do not believe in their ways will be put on the chopping block. It started with the people next door, and if not stopped it will spread world wide.
ITS NOT ABOUT OIL!!!!!!!!!
We have plenty of untapped resources here, including OIL!!! Alaska is full of the shit. America is trying to give freedom to those without at the cost of OUR soldiers lives. Until other countries wake up and help stop these evil evil people, it will continue and grow.
Look, I'm sorry your shit got attacked, I really really am, but maybe now you will see how it is to walk in our shoes.

Also,
Do you see how a few harsh uncaring words by me makes ya feel?( rather I really mean them or not ) Feel that little bit of anger creaping up inside ya?
Think about that next time you want to bash my country.
Edit
This was not directed at any one person

They interrupted the cricket game here to bring the news in last night, so I was up and watching the tv in the early stages.
Hope that everyone is going well there.
Pal, take the flame bait to the America is Evil thread and leave this one to sincere thoughts.
