So, do any of you really believe this is going to end well, not only for us all, but for conservatives in general?

Our POTUS is a mentally-deficient, corrupt oligarch wannabee who has sold us up the river to corporate and foreign interests because he's too stupid to do his job. He is mentally a child with a terminal case of affluenza. His cabinet hates him. By and large the American public hate him. Our allies hate him. BUT Our enemies love him. Why? Because he's just like them, and doing massive damage to the country they most despise while they gleefully watch the spectacle.

Fortunately, he's also too stupid to not get caught. The question is if we will see justice from this travesty. I think we will, and soon.

I'm just curious if anyone defends any of this; how can any self-respecting intellectual find a way to spin this situation to a positive without delusional or ignorant self-biased thinking?

Fun aside.. we have a T4 hurricane bearing down on us. Akuma, assuming he still lives in SC, is probably going to see the worst, but we're not too much farther inland.

I hope POTUS does a better job for us than he did for Puerto Rico, or we're fucked, but after hearing him talk about it, saying incredibly stupid shit like "This storm is tremendously WET!", I think we're fucked.

While I am not one to solicit prayers, as I feel it is an epic cop-out that does absolutely nothing for anyone but make the people praying for others feel better about themselves doing nothing, at least consider us in the aftermath. Some of the people that are likely going to die will be because of our collective choices as a people.

Just in case I turn out to be one of them, then let my last words be "think better, do better, be better". If you can't, at least I can solace in the fact I would be far from alone soon enough.

The country is broken and no one, of either party, has the will nor the capability to fix it. Kavanaugh said it partially right yesterday in the hearing, "There will be a reckoning". Only, he thinks there will be one against the Democrats... He is wrong, there will be one for the country and all parties. And it isn't going to be pretty or clean.

I am, as everyone here knows, a bit to the right of the center of the conservative/liberal spectrum. And I am, to put it charitably, at best ambivalent about President Trump.

On the one hand, his economic policies have enjoyed tremendous success. The country's GDP is growing at its fastest rate since the Great Recession. Unemployment rates--particularly among minorities--are at historically low levels. As Martha Stewart would say, "that's a good thing."

On the other hand, he needs to shut the f*** up, and somebody needs to take away his access to any form of social media. But his ego is so huge that he just can't help bragging about himself (undeservedly so) and making stuff up. If anything is unbecoming of the office of President of the United States, this is it. There is an old truism that you should never post on social media while drunk, and his 3 a.m. tweets sure seem to run afoul of that rule.

On a related subject, I will make two predictions about the one-week postponement of the Senate vote on the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court while the FBI investigates Ford's allegations of sexual improprieties against the judge. First, the FBI's report will state either (a) one week has provided insufficient time for the bureau to fully investigate the claims, or (b) after investigation and interviewing witnesses, the FBI cannot come to any conclusion regarding the veracity of the claims.

Second, unless the FBI report concludes that Dr. Ford's claims are true (which I highly doubt), it will not change a single mind of the senators voting on confirmation. Even if the FBI's report concludes that the claims are false, most (if not all) Democrats will vote against Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation. And most, if not all, Republicans will vote for confirmation if (as I predict) the FBI's report is inconclusive. Such is the dreadful polarization of American politics to which Amon aptly alluded.
