While I offer my condolences to those hurt/scarred or those who lost loved ones in this attack, I would have to admit that merely feeling sorry for those hurt by this is not enough.
We need to start getting tougher with the punishments for people who do stuff like this. We need stiffer punishments, we need to make people fear the law, we need to get some good ole fashioned revenge against cowards like this and those who would do similar acts.
Throwing them in prison to await death row in 20+ years is just not that punishment we need.
We need something better. We need to find the guy who did this, and make him dearly sorry he ever did something so evil and cowardly, if we can actually get him before he takes the coward's way out and kills himself.. *rolls eyes*

Now, now, once we capture the bastard(s) behind this cowardly attack we must afford them a fair trial and shoot them in the morning.
I'm pondering whether this is a case of domestic or foreign terrorism. Absent an extraordinary break in the investigation, I suspect we won't have any idea for a loooooong time.

My money is on domestic terrorism. Probably some evangelical whackjob or "2nd-amendment remedies" nutcase. It has a striking similarity to what happened here in Atlanta during the 96 Olympics.
Boston is symbolic for liberal causes, and especially because of its dedication to the victims of the Newtown, CT massacre, some of whom were present at the finish line.
I don't see the point in foreign terrorists targeting the Marathon -- it's not particularly symbolic as a target for foreign terror concerns.

When Foreign terrorists strike, they're looking for something major, important, something recognizable world-wide (like the WTC or the Pentagon), and/or a large number of people gathered in an area. A marathon in a city like Boston... I just don't see that being a high-priority target for foreign terrorists. And they tend to use something better than crude, homemade bombs, and they usually kill more than 3 people.

Well, given current events, I would've lost that bet on technical grounds, but it appears the case is a bit more murky.
The perps were foreign-born, but also naturalized US citizens, Muslim, but with an as-yet undetermined affiliation, and no specific motive has been uncovered as yet. I hope they catch the younger perp without killing him so they can get something out of him to indicate why they did it.
Of course, the right-wing echo chamber is working overtime on the Muslim angle.

Correction: the younger brother was a naturalized US citizen, the older one was only a green-card holder.
So far, it seems like the motive was to get attention, probably driven by the older brother, who wasn't doing too well here in the US. It still hasn't come to light where they acquired their IED-making knowledge or who taught it to them and why. That will likely be a major factor in the motive as well.

Well, they have the younger brother in custody alive, for the moment. Let's hope he stays that way so they can interrogate him and get some idea of why they did what they did.
Of course, the parents are in denial, saying it is all a setup; that they were framed. Yeah, guy, the police framed them tossing bombs at the police while being chased in a stolen car. The younger even ran over his elder brother trying to escape.

Like I told some people at work IRL:
Keep the guy alive, put him through a trial, blah blah and if they should find him guilty, take him out into a big open field, tie him to a stake and throw grenades at him, to see how he likes explosive fragmentation devices. Maybe he'd be lucky enough to survive the first blast which might blow his leg off or something so he can see what that feels like.

Still waiting on the uproar about violation of civil liberties... House arrest for an entire city? Illegal (w/o warrant) searches of people's homes?
At least they FINALLY read the suspect his rights. Took them how many days to do that?
