Reading up on this CIA interrogation report makes me sick. I don't care what the terrorists did to us on 9/11, nobody deserves to be treated that way. There is no way that we, as Americans, can claim to be a beacon of freedom, democracy, tolerance, and all of the other things we proclaim to the world if, in times of crisis and hardship, we toss those morals and ethics out the window as inconvenient.

When we descend to barbaric tactics in our interminable war against terrorism, we have already lost.

When our "war" against "terrorism" is both self-serving and self-perpetuating, there was no way it could ever have been "won" in the first place, because "winning" wasn't the point.
The people who were behind this need to go to jail. Some of them need to be charged with high treason, convicted, then summarily shot as a warning to future despots what happens when they grossly violate human rights.
Of course, it won't happen, so expect more of the same. When there are no consequences to acting badly, people will sink to their absolute lowest -- especially those with power. It has played out time and time again in history, and it will continue to do so.
I used to think that the human race was doomed from the actions of a few horrible people; now, I see it as being doomed by the apathy and ignorance of the masses towards those same people and their deeds.
Bread and circuses! Keep it coming!
