A friend of mine is playing the alpha of ArchAge. Although the game is "complete" in that it has launched in Asia and Russia, it is undergoing alpha in America for localization here.
My friend describes the game as one incorporating all the good things from Ultima Online (and some other games) with terrific graphics. Anyone else playing or know of the game? Thoughts?

I have heard the name... that's about it. And for people who were not around to play Ultima Online I have no idea what that statement is saying about the how the game goes .

Probably a good sign for it that Trion is the company here in the US doing it. They have done well by Rift.

I have been playing the N American Alpha a week now and one character at lvl 23. I will do my best to answer any questions, however I warn you I am still learning and have not experienced everything in game. Also the version I am playing is the original Korean version that is in the process of being localized. It is far from the final release version. The game has been out a couple of years in Korea and betas are being held in Russia and Japan. The N American alpha is based on the Korean model before patch 1.0. The game is being localized in each beta to reflect differences in the regional play style. The beta will give a better idea of what the release version will hold. For example in the Japanese beta PvP was severely nerfed where contested regions had much shorter periods of warfare. The pirates went from 100% looting of trade packs to 60/40 of the trade packs value. In the US alpha next patch will introduce the cash shop into the game. I will update this thread as changes are made if anyone expresses interest. Beta should start this month and release is rumored to be in August. overall impression is performance is ok, graphics are good, server stability is damn good, CS is good when available . The 1 time the client would not start CS chat had me up and running in about 10 minutes. The drawback is chat is not available 24 and 7. Live chat hours are Monday - Sunday: 08:00 AM - 07:00 PM CDT The basics: The game is a mix of sandbox and theme park. Think of the first 20 levels as the tutorial and you advance pretty much as you do in any other MMO by doing quests or crafting. Around lvl 25 - 30 if you want to advance via quests you will be in PvP areas that will have periods of peace while at other times will be in a state of war. Along the way you will acquire a mount which lvls separately from your character and which you can equip with armor and yes mounted combat is in game. You will also get a basic rowboat, and a hang glider. Sea travel and hang gliding is in the game and the more advanced boats and gliders have combat capabilities also. There are also attack pets which anyone can own and once again they lvl separately and can wear armor. You can own many mounts and pets with different abilities and in the latest Korean version there is a dolphin mount. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrHQnQpCTwQ4 races and 3 continents with no zoning. The Nuians ( humans) and Elves share the western continent, while the nomadic Firran (catlike) and Harani ( just different) inhabit lands to the east. Each race is a faction and in certain areas and times someone from the enemy faction is KOS. Other areas are just PvE however if you want to adventure quest to 50 some of the quests will be in red areas. There is also a third continent which will have PvP contested zones ala DaoC except the bonus is those areas have higher resources than the southern continent so they will be worth fighting for and defending. Castle building and Siege engine crafters rejoice. There are 50 levels and 23 skill points which you can distribute among 3 skill trees chosen from 10 skill trees total. Skills and also skill trees are resettable and you can switch them around as you wish. Axe wielding, bow using healer is NP. Crafting reminds me of Horizons. Nothing special in and of itself but very complex. So complex in fact I will just provide a link archeage.info/crafting . My last 3 levels on my 23 were done 90% by crafting and mining and I have 1 mule who does nothing except plant and harvest on my farms. He made 2 levels this week with a shovel and a watering can. Everything you do in this game gives exp. Ride across the land and see node to mine then mine it for exp, craft the ore into a ingot more exp, sell it on auction house or make something with it and you get more exp. Housing – Non instanced housing zones. It has 8 x 8 garden plots, 16 x 16 farms, small, medium, large houses, beach houses and aqua farms. A lot like SWG except areas are zoned with limited numbers of plots. Furniture is free to place and rumor has it that furniture crafting is a great end game way to make coin. Fishing- good way to make a living and lvl as long as you can afford the bait. Best way to get bait is have a 16 x 16 farm , equip it with a farming bench and use seed bundles. Worms will be a by product and sell like hotcakes on AH. I have been joiking that I will open a tackle shop and sell beer, fishing poles and bait for a endgame. You can fish from land or boats. Commercial fishing boats are in the game and are equipped with live wells for holding a number of fish. When fishing though make sure there are not pirates around or have some freinds with a warship with you for protection. If you see blood in the water and the pirates have left the area you should stop and put on the dive gear and see if there is anything salvageable left behind. Underwater salvage is a viable but unreliable way to make a living. This is a fantasy game not a middle age replica. You will see farm tractors, sports cars and toons on hang gliders bombing mobs. Hope this helps a bit and since there is no NDA I will try and answer questions or at least provide links to any questions

Sort of in a holding pattern in AA right now while waiting on beta to start. I am hoping for a big patch and a server wipe next week in preparation for beta, although there has been no official word yet. In the meantime I am sorting through youtube videos trying to find some worth posting. Some of these are from the NA alpha, some from Russian beta and some from Korean release version here is a decent one on fishing www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-rwRH996bUthis one is semi so so but shows housing and farming www.youtube.com/watch?v=529in9ycPg4ships and ship building and yes the sail logos are customizable, you can upload guild logo or whatever for sails, shields, and cloaks. Funniest one I have seen was a sail logo with the Wendy's hamburger logo and text offering good old fashioned whup ass www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjJ3g_1kA0Ugoing to court and getting thrown in jail for killing players of own faction . Oh and the jury is made up of players, there is a quest involved for getting on the jury duty list in late 20's. Trial chat is available faction wide and it is hilarious. This is a long video just jump around to the interesting parts www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ3VaN3mIyIa newbie's first experience with a airship and he hang glides off of it. Hang gliders come in several varieties some have rockets which can be used air to air or air to ground and also bombs which you can drop on mobs or enemy players and ships www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGnbsuNVg4wcastle siege, shades of DAoC www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BpAr5cXWn0yes you can play your own music in Archeage or port over files www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewD7aC4OIm8
