No one has said anything about it. I've been doing the beta and I'm giving it a shot when it goes live. It's interesting. Firefly meets WoW kinda style. I can really see the potential for the twitch gameplay elements to turn people off but it's different enough for me that I'm enjoying it.

Yea I saw nothing really different at all in the beta week I got invited to. Other than the twitchy stuff. Didn't get into crafting.
Just got out of the first two zones or whatever but by the 2nd day I honestly didn't give a shit about what I was doing or what the quest/storyline was saying or asking me to do. Didn't care to find out what was over the next hill, the next zone, the next ability. Felt like samo'samo though with some interesting twists on the standard classes. I guess when I left the space station tutorial part (which at least felt unique and individual as far as a setting) to land on a planet that... has grass and rocks and trees and scorpian mobs - looked like I was in Westfall or some other classic bland wow "normal looking" setting. Like I just landed in..say..Missouri...
And something looking more animated than WoW - (but for me and my settings anyway) - not as detailed.
BUT! I also know its built for the pvp/twitch freegame crowd so its a different audience to me and not really anything I'm into (free2play is fine, but I could care less about 'twitch' or pvpnes..)

All I really know about the game is that while I originally applauded the developers trying something slightly different from the norm in term of setting, after seeing the graphical style I was really put off. I mean it took me time to get past WoW's style originally, but wildstar feels far too cartoony for my liking.
That said, havent played it, dont know fudge all about it. Just chiming in on random observations!

Looks like most playing are enjoying it. Art style is not my cup of tea and that is a shame because looks like it is a fun game

I totally see what you mean about not giving a shit about the story. I found it pretty slow to get into personally. For me I wanted something different and a bit wacky so it really appeals but it's going to be polarizing for sure. I'm playing a healer and I have to say at the lower levels it's brutal. It's really frantic sometimes and I do like that it rewards players that play well. In beta I went and messed around with the dungeons at the low level. We are talking lvl 20 and they were hard. Some of that was because everything was pug groups at that time but there's just no way a dps'er could just stand and key mash and make it. It really does require everyone to do their stuff and do it well. I'm hoping that the reality isn't as brutal as my beta experience seemed. I was only using dropped gear and quest rewards so there must have been far better options then what I had available.
I'm really enjoying it especially that it's different. Jumping puzzles might get on my nerves before long though.

Jumping puzzles might get on my nerves before long though. I was horrible at jumping puzzles in games until someone told me of a trick rebinding the up and down arrow keys to forward and jump. That way I could hit them simultaneously using only one finger. Might want to give it a try and see if it works for you.

Try a jump where you have to do a run up holding shift to sprint and hit a water spout to shoot yourself up into the air and double jump half way through to land it. Oh and you are trying to land on a floaty thing that's just a little bigger than the bed of a pickup truck. There's no key bind for that sort of nonsense. It really is a seriously fun game though.

Still I can't get past the art style no matter how good the game play is

Still waiting for anyone to describe something in the game that is actually DIFFERENT... I mean its more cartoony, and doesn't take itself so seriously. Is that the only part that's "different?" in the end? You people who are playing and enjoying yourselves...

Is that the only part that's "different?" in the end? You people who are playing and enjoying yourselves... Targeting is completely different from anything else that I've played. Telegraphs are displayed on the ground for where your skill is going to land. There's no tab target nonsense but it can be quite frustrating as a heal or dps when the tank moves out of your heal or the mob out of your line of fire. I've been playing for months and I'm still not used to it but I like it. PVP is completely mental as a result. It's hard to describe but I feel like I actually have more control of the fights. If I get hit by big boss guy it's because I failed not because the devs put some kind of huge range aoe and I missed him winking or some stupidity like that. Time will tell. I may get really tired of it. Actually character building is quite different because it's scary flexible. I don't think you can change things in combat but I could switch my toon from heal to dps in the middle of a dungeon if it was required.

Ok so, twitchy targeting and.. Yea that's not new. Druids and other classes can do it in WoW. Changing builds on the fly between various rolls in plenty of games . Secret World abilities are built around that concept (you can switch in between fights between tank/heal/dps any combo of the above...) Weird, I don't even remember registering the targeting was all that different when I played through the Beta... heh. (And while you consider tab target nonsense I love it and hate it when I can't... just cuz of button mashing efficiency

(And while you consider tab target nonsense I love it and hate it when I can't... just cuz of button mashing efficiency excuse the derail however I honestly cannot think of single thing that has not been done in some MMO or the other. There are hundreds of MMORPG's out there www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/show/all/sCol/genreUC/sOrder/asc that list isn't taking account games that came and went. Pve, PvP in large, medium and one on one settings both open world and instanced, aeriel combat, naval combat, underwater combat, at least half dozen targeting and combat styles, crafting using a dozen different schemes, music systems. As long as we are limited to a keyboard and mouse for control and a viewing screen and speakers for the video and audio I can't think of much else they can do. These days my judgement of a game has became down to (A) it is fun (B) it is not fun. If I find it fun I play it till I am bored of it and when it isn't fun I just don't play it. Simplistic attitude maybe but it sure makes life and decisions a lot simpler
