This is the followup article: massively.joystiq.com/2014/01/05/rise-and-shiny-revisit-istaria/. I guess I misread or misunderstood the original article, in that I thought that there would be more videos. Alas not, and that limp little mess is apparently all there will be. The loyal staff deserves better for all their effort for so long.

Yea I was hoping to see more videos too... ahh well. That one just seem to *mostly* focus on crafting... course as the person said, they went back every year and gave it another few weeks so not sure what their other articles have been on... on other years.. that I remember off the top of my head...
But yea kinda weird... I too thought it was like a livestream a day or something...

Resurrecting this thread again. The never-will-die thread and game.
I wanted to invite you all back. I know you all have moved on, some of you have feelings towards the game, perhaps towards me or others. But, few of the original folks you loathed remain. Its a "new" day with the game, new blood, new content, and we're actively working on making it more fun, introducing changes to combat and crafting, and we are much more open to player feedback/input than we (probably mostly me) once were.
Anyway, just thought I'd put that out there for anyone who might take a peek at this board still. We miss you all. You were among the best players, I'm sorry you felt the need to leave so long ago.
<Rant On> my friends!

I wasn't aware that Horizons was still around in some form or fashion. Once real life slows down for a bit--hopefully within the next couple of months--I'll look for it and check it out at least for old times' sake.

Its never gone away. Virtrium (owned by the former lead engineer) acquired it from EI way back in 2007. He brought a few of us along and we've had numerous people over the years supporting us. we've got some new blood with energy and ideas and have really been cranking on new content, taking away old annoyances, trying new things, and so on. Couple years ago we replaced the hardware the game ran on so server-side its much better (12-core CPUs, tons of RAM, SSDs). Been making lots of fixes to the client as well. Still kicking.

Most likely won't at this point. Putting most of my energy into SL, GW2, RL, and my own game dev now. Working on a fantasy game with Dragons (and other mythicals).
My mate (who was also a beta player) and I even talked about it recently, and her words were "I don't think I could get bored enough to go back to HZ".
I realize that you're trying to draw some folks in and being on the up-and-up about it, and I can appreciate it. The problem for me beyond lack of time and interest is that I lost so much in the plot/lair thing that I really can't see getting any enjoyment out of it. That, and the $15/mo sub for a 15 year old game just doesn't appeal.
The people issue hasn't been a thing for me for a long time. I know the "problem children" are long gone (thankfully).

Hi I did take a look a year or two back. Problem for me was the lack of people. I mean, it was totally dead - just a couple of players UK time. Hard to be interested with literally no one to talk to.
